Providing great service may seem like it would be every lenders/loan officers goal.
And most loan officers will say they do have great customer service. I feel that to provide truly great customer service the loan officer has to truly lover their business and enjoy working with their clients.
I am now in my 25th year in the mortgage business, and I can tell you there is nothing else I’d rather be doing. I do everything possible to make sure that what I quote up front to my clients is how it comes out at closing. I don’t want my clients to have a bad surprise at closing, and to make sure there are no surprises I am very thorough up front.
My initial loan scenarios will provide detail that is unusual for the mortgage industry. Also, I include a “screen capture” video presentation that will help explain the scenarios, as if my clients are sitting right in front of me. My providing a video, my clients are able to review the scenarios and video as often as they want, all they way to the closing table.

When I finally decided to use my VA benefits some 25 years after I left the USMC I searched the internet for a VA loan supplier to convert a conventional loan to a VA Loan. I tried to find one in California but ended up contacting one in Utah. They had a slick website and the Loan officer promised me smooth sailing. The next day I found Tim Storm at Emery. Tim told me some things that I did not want to hear so I checked with the oh-so-slick Utah loan officer. They assured me that Tim was wrong and we could move on. Well, Tim was not wrong. He knew from Day 1 all that was required and he told me so. I recently worked with Tim on the purchase of our first home, on which we used a VA mortgage. I initially found Tim via a web search, and after being very impressed with his website and blog contacted Tim through his website. About two hours later (on a Saturday evening) Tim called me back — this was my first indication of how proactive he was. After talking with him I knew immediately he would be the right person to work with. Tim was no pressure from the start, and always was a true professional. Working with a mortgage officer (and buying a home) is a stressful process — but Tim always made me feel comfortable and at ease.
My wife and searched for our home for over 6 months, and Tim never lost patience with us, and never gave us any pressure along the way. I asked him for more loan scenarios than I could count over those six months, and I doubt there was a time it ever took him more than a couple of hours to respond with a revised loan mockup. Tim’s responsiveness to my initial inquiry was what originally impressed me, and he conducted himself in the same proactive manner throughout our transaction.
Once we found the home we were looking for, our offer was the one accepted because we promised a 30 day close. Both real estate agents were skeptical of Tim’s ability to close a VA loan in 30 days, but Tim assured me he could do it. Tim stayed in close contact with myself and both agents and the escrow office throughout the process, and kept everything on track. And sure enough we closed exactly 30 days after going under contract. I was very impressed, as were both agents in my purchase — each went out of their way to comment how impressed they were with Tim.
I would recommend Tim to anyone, and particularly other Veterans using a VA loan. Tim has tremendous knowledge of the product and the process, and his knowledge will help not only you understand the VA process, but also help you educate realtors and sellers that a VA loan is just as easy (and quick) to close as any other mortgage product.
